Intricate Green Naga Textile
Name: Intricate Green Naga Textile

Item#: 12212

The patterning of this textile is so complex that it is on the loom for a year. This piece is made from hand-reeled, village raised silk, naturally dyed, and hand-woven on a hand-built loom in a small village in NE Laos. The complexity of the design, composed of multiple depictions of the naga (mythological river serpent), requires the hand-picking of each color woven into the weft using the discontinuous supplemental weft technique. Rainbows of color representing the belly of the mythological hong bird, and flowers separate and delineate the complex twisting of naga throughout this piece. Finished with flowers made from cut silk worm cocoons, this piece comes with a photo of the natural dyer and designer, wearing the textile.
