Name: Black Tapestry Weave and Ngeuak Khii Saang Cloth

Exquisitely woven tapestry-weave center of river current pattern almost pops off of this locally-raised and reeled, naturally dyed, and hand-woven silk textile. Stunning worn or as a wall hanging. The end borders of the textile include Siho (mythological elephant-lions) with a Naga (mythological river serpent) trunk, and pregnant with naga - also called a Ngueak Khii Saang (mythological river serpent riding an elephant. A baby Saang Hong (mythological elephant-bird) is on the main figure's back with an ancestor figure on its back, and the remaining space is filled with small birds, naga, flowers, and stylized crested Naga. This design is followed by a band of two-headed Saang Hong pregnant with Naga. Edges are finished with silk worm cocoon flowers, and the piece comes complete with a photo of the natural dyer and designer of this textile.
