Fern Frond Shawl
Name: Fern Frond Shawl

Item#: 4484

Unlike many of the scarves and shawls shown here, this one is made from both locally raised, hand-reeled silk and locally grown, handspun, indigo-dyed cotton. The shawls woven of both cotton and silk are used for warmth in Laos, where heat and humidity make the cotton a thicker, warming layer. This shawl has the natural colored cotton as a base, with the cotton being the materials used as the supplemental weft creating the fern frond patterning. Because of the weave, this shawl can be worn on both sides with different colors showing in the pattern, based upon the outfit worn or the emphasis wanted as a piece of graphic wall art.

Size: 16 in. x 72 in.

Origins: Houaphan Province, Laos

Site Design: DIGI Studios
