Phii Nak Tapestry Weave
Name: Phii Nak Tapestry Weave

Item#: 8002

Souk is the Master Dyer for this incredible silk piece of combination tapestry weave and discontinuous supplemental weft designs. Phii Nak (giant spirit - a very fierce protective spirit with one head and curling arms) and curled-tailed naga (mythological river serpents) make up the predominate designs in this large shaman cloth or ceremonial blanket. The silk weft is all from silk worms raised in a nearby village, the dyes from the forest, the designs by Souk, and the weaving by a woman up in the hills who is able to make a living weaving in her own village. The tassels on the bottom are silk worm cocoons cut to resemble flowers. This is definitely a collector's piece, stunning in execution and color. Comes with a photo of Souk holding up her textile.

Size: 31 in. wide x 74 in. long

Origins: Houaphan Province, Laos

Site Design: DIGI Studios
